Formulas and Key Relations
Core Ideas
x = 5
x < 7
x > 5
ax + b > 0, ax + b < 0, ax + b ≥ 0, ax + b ≤ 0
Properties of Inequations
a > b ⇒ a + c > b + c
a < b ⇒ a + c < b + c
a > b ⇒ a - c > b - c
a < b ⇒ a - c < b - c
a > b and c > 0 ⇒ a·c > b·c
A linear inequation has the form ax + b > 0, ax + b < 0, ax + b ≥ 0, or ax + b ≤ 0.
Key relations
Examples include x = 5, 3x = 7, and 2x - 5 = 10.
If a and b are real numbers and a ≠ 0, then statements of the form ax + b > 0, ax + b < 0, ax + b ≥ 0, and ax + b ≤ 0 are linear inequations.
