  • Meristematic tissue consists of actively dividing cells
  • Located only at specific regions where growth occurs
  • Three types: Apical (tips), Lateral (cambium), Intercalary (nodes)

  • Formed from meristematic tissue after losing ability to divide
  • Process called differentiation leads to specialized functions
  • Three types: Parenchyma, Collenchyma, Sclerenchyma

  • Epidermis: outermost protective layer, usually single-celled
  • Has waxy cuticle to prevent water loss
  • Stomata: pores for gas exchange, controlled by guard cells
