1. Sanskrit and Its Importance
- Sanskrit is the most ancient language of India.
- It is one of the twenty-two languages listed in the Indian Constitution.
- It is the mother of many Indian languages.
2. The Vedas and Related Texts
- The word Veda literally means knowledge.
- There are four Vedas: Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda.

- There are eighteen Puranas and about the same number of Upapuranas.
- The Puranas are mythological works that spread religious and spiritual messages through parables and fables.
