2. Human Excretory System

  • The human excretory system consists of a pair of kidneys, a pair of ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra.
  • Kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped, reddish brown organs present in the abdominal cavity attached to the dorsal body wall.
  • The right kidney is lower than the left kidney because the liver occupies the right side of the abdominal cavity.

3. Structure of Nephron

  • A nephron has two main parts: Malpighian body and renal tubule.
  • Malpighian body consists of Bowman's capsule and glomerulus.
  • Glomerulus is a network of fine blood capillaries inside Bowman's capsule.

4. Urine Formation

  • Urine formation involves four stages: glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, tubular secretion, and formation of concentrated urine.
  • During glomerular filtration, blood enters the glomerulus from the renal artery through the afferent arteriole and is filtered under high pressure.
  • The filtrate formed at this stage is called primary urine.
