1. Basic Idea and Naming the Sides

  • A right-angled triangle is the basic figure used for defining trigonometric ratios.
  • In triangle ABC with right angle at B, AC is the hypotenuse, BC is the side opposite angle A, and AB is the side adjacent to angle A.
  • The same side can change its name when the reference angle changes.

2. Six Trigonometric Ratios

  • There are three main ratios: sin, cos, tan.
  • Their multiplicative inverses are cosec, sec, and cot.
  • These ratios are defined for an acute angle in a right-angled triangle.

3. Standard Values of Trigonometric Ratios

  • Special angles 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° have fixed ratio values.

  • Two angles are complementary if their sum is 90°.
