1. Rest and Motion - Fundamental Concepts
- An object is at rest when it does not change its position with respect to its surroundings
- An object is in motion when it continuously changes its position with respect to its surroundings
- Motion is a relative phenomenon - an object can appear in motion to one observer and at rest to another

2. Uniform and Non-Uniform Motion
- Uniform motion occurs when an object covers equal distances in equal intervals of time (no matter how small or large the time interval)
- In uniform motion, the speed remains constant throughout the journey
- Examples of uniform motion: A car moving at constant speed on a highway, a train moving at constant velocity on a straight track

3. Distance and Displacement
- Distance is the total length of the path traveled by a moving object, irrespective of direction
- Distance is always positive and cannot be zero if the object has moved
- Distance depends on the actual path taken, not the starting and ending points

4. Speed and Velocity
- Speed is the rate of change of distance per unit time (distance/time)
- Speed is a scalar quantity - only has magnitude, no direction
- Average speed = Total distance traveled / Total time taken
