4. Aerobic Respiration and the TCA Cycle

  • Aerobic respiration is the complete oxidation of organic substances in the presence of oxygen.
  • It occurs in mitochondria in eukaryotes.
  • Pyruvic acid enters the mitochondrial matrix and undergoes oxidative decarboxylation to form acetyl CoA.
