1. Bronze Sculpture in India: Overview

- The Dancing Girl from Mohenjodaro is the earliest known Indian bronze sculpture, datable to 2500 BCE.
- Her limbs and torso are simplified in tubular form.
- The Daimabad Chariot is a bronze statuette group datable to 1500 BCE in Maharashtra.
3. Jain Bronzes: Chausa and Akota
- Jain tirthankara bronzes were found at Chausa, Bihar, and belong to the Kushana Period, second century CE.
- Chausa bronzes show mastery of the masculine physique and simplified muscles.
- Adinath or Vrishabhnath is identified by long hairlocks dropping to his shoulders.
4. Buddha Bronzes: Gupta, Post-Gupta, and Vakataka Styles
- Standing Buddha images with abhaya mudra were cast in North India during the Gupta and Post-Gupta periods, between the fifth and seventh centuries.
- The drapery of standing Buddha images falls and spreads into a wide curve at ankle level.
- The Gupta Buddha appears youthful and more proportionate than the Kushana style.
