1. Meaning and Types of Executive
- Executive is the branch of government responsible for implementing laws and policies and for daily administration.
- Every formal organisation needs a body that takes decisions and another body that carries them out.
- The political executive includes the Prime Minister and ministers who take major policy decisions.
2. Parliamentary Executive in India
- The Constitution adopts the parliamentary system for both Union and State governments.
- At the Union level, the President is the formal head of the state and the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers run the government.
- At the State level, the Governor, Chief Minister, and Council of Ministers perform similar roles.

- The Council of Ministers cannot exist without the Prime Minister.
