1. Basic Concepts of Spreadsheet

  • A workbook is a file in Excel and contains multiple worksheets.
  • By default, a workbook has three sheets: Sheet 1, Sheet 2, and Sheet 3.
  • Only one worksheet can be active at a time.

2. Formula Writing, Functions, and Order of Operations

  • Formulas must begin with an equal to sign.
  • A formula may contain cell references and functions.
  • The order of mathematical operations follows brackets, exponents, multiplication/division from left to right, then addition/subtraction from left to right.

3. Useful Functions: Date, Text, Counting, and Rounding

  • TODAY() returns the serial number of the current date.
  • January 1, 1900 is serial number 1.
  • NOW() returns the serial number of the current date and time.

4. Lookup Functions and Reference-Based Searching

  • LOOKUP returns a value from a one-row or one-column range or from an array.
  • LOOKUP has vector form and array form.
  • Vector form searches one row or one column and returns a value from the same position in a second range.
