1. Choosing the Correct Unit

  • Metre is used for longer objects such as the height of India Gate.
  • Centimetre is used for smaller objects such as a handkerchief, a mobile phone, or the distance between two buttons on a shirt.
  • Depth of a well is usually measured in metres.

2. Millimetre and Centimetre

  • One centimetre is divided into ten equal parts.
  • Each part is called 1 millimetre.
  • 10 mm = 1 cm.

3. Comparing and Matching Lengths

  • Lengths can be compared using <, =, and >.
  • Make the units the same before comparing.
  • A larger number of centimetres means a longer length when the units are the same.

4. Long Distances and Kilometre

  • Kilometre is used for long distances.
  • Kilo stands for thousand.
  • 1 km means 1000 m.
