Tiling and Tessellation

  • A regular shape has all sides equal.
  • A regular pentagon is a 5-sided figure with all sides equal.
  • Three regular pentagons placed around a point leave a gap, so regular pentagons do not tessellate.

Triangles and Their Properties

  • An equilateral triangle has all three sides equal.
  • Equilateral triangles also have equal angles.
  • An isosceles triangle has exactly 2 equal sides and 2 equal angles.

Quadrilaterals and Special Shapes

  • A kite can be made by folding a square piece of paper along a diagonal crease and folding two corners inward.
  • In a kite, Side 1 = Side 2 and Side 3 = Side 4.
  • These equal sides are adjacent sides.

Circle Patterns and Designs

  • A circle design can be made by joining points 1 to 11, 11 to 2, 2 to 12, and so on till returning to 1, using points marked 1 to 24.
  • Joining the endpoints of two diameters of a circle forms a quadrilateral.
  • The quadrilateral formed by joining the endpoints of two diameters is usually a rectangle.
