  • 27.53 consists of 2 Tens, 7 Units, 5 Tenths, 3 Hundredths.
  • A decimal fraction is a fraction with denominator 10, 100, 1000, and so on.

2. Converting Fractions to Decimals

  • Fractions with denominators 10, 100, 1000, and so on are easy to convert to decimals.
  • The numerator tells how many parts are taken.
  • The denominator tells the size of each part.

3. Dividing by 10, 100, 1000, and so on

  • When a decimal is divided by 10, 100, 1000, and so on, the decimal point moves left by the number of zeroes in the divisor.
  • 123 ÷ 10 = 12.3.
  • 24 ÷ 100 = 0.24.

4. Multiplying Decimals

  • Multiplication of decimals is the same as the multiplication of their corresponding fractions. When multiplying fractions, we multiply the numerators and denominators, respectively.
  • The product of the numerators = Product of the numbers with the decimal points removed.
  • Count the total number of decimal places in the factors and place the decimal point in the product accordingly.
