  • Change can be of three types: evolutionary, revolutionary and planned.
  • Evolutionary change is gradual, slow and not visible.

Types of Change

  • There are three major types of change: developmental, transitional and transformational.
  • Developmental change improves current business procedures.
  • Developmental change is incremental and non-disruptive, so resistance is usually lower.

Need for Planned Change

  • Pressures for change come from both outside and inside the organisation.
  • External forces for change are market situation, technology, population dynamics, and political and legal system.
  • Market situation changes because of competition, changing consumer needs and new products or services.

Resistance to Change

  • Resistance to change may be overt, implicit, immediate or deferred.
  • A threat to go on strike is an overt form of resistance.
  • Increased errors or mistakes are an implicit form of resistance.
