Key Topics to Revise

1

1. Addition Without Carry Over

  • When the sum of digits in any column is less than 10, we write the answer directly.
  • No carry over is needed.
  • Always start adding from the 'Ones' place.
2

2. Addition With Carry Over

  • When the sum of digits in a column is 10 or more, we carry over the extra digit to the next higher place.
  • Carry over means moving the extra ten(s) to the next column.
  • Example: 8 + 7 = 15 → Write 5, carry over 1 ten.
3

3. Adding 3-digit and 4-digit Numbers

  • 4-digit numbers have Thousands (Th), Hundreds (H), Tens (T), and Ones (O).
  • 3-digit numbers only have H, T, O — so we treat the Thousands as 0.
  • Always align numbers by place value.
4

4. Adding Three or More Numbers

  • We can add three or more numbers using the same column method.
  • Add column by column, starting from Ones.
  • Carry over as needed.
