Key Topics to Revise
1. Addition Without Carry Over
- When the sum of digits in any column is less than 10, we write the answer directly.
- No carry over is needed.
- Always start adding from the 'Ones' place.
2. Addition With Carry Over
- When the sum of digits in a column is 10 or more, we carry over the extra digit to the next higher place.
- Carry over means moving the extra ten(s) to the next column.
- Example: 8 + 7 = 15 → Write 5, carry over 1 ten.
3. Adding 3-digit and 4-digit Numbers
- 4-digit numbers have Thousands (Th), Hundreds (H), Tens (T), and Ones (O).
- 3-digit numbers only have H, T, O — so we treat the Thousands as 0.
- Always align numbers by place value.
4. Adding Three or More Numbers
- We can add three or more numbers using the same column method.
- Add column by column, starting from Ones.
- Carry over as needed.
