Key Topics to Revise
1. Types of Patterns
- There are two main types of patterns: Geometric Patterns and Number Patterns.
- Geometric patterns use shapes, colours, or designs arranged in a repeating or growing sequence.
- Number patterns are sequences of numbers that follow a rule like adding, subtracting, multiplying, or a combination of operations.
2. Geometric Patterns
- Geometric patterns can involve repeating shapes, increasing lines, or rotating figures.
- Look for changes in position, size, number of sides, or direction (clockwise/anticlockwise).
- Example: Arrows turning clockwise or lines being added one by one.
3. Number Patterns
- Number patterns follow rules like adding, subtracting, multiplying, or a combination.
- To find the rule, subtract or divide consecutive numbers.
- Some patterns grow by adding the same number each time (e.g., +3, +3, +3).
4. Patterns with Number Operations
- Some patterns are shown in diagrams where numbers relate to each other using operations.
- Example: A number in a circle is the sum of two numbers outside it.
- Another pattern: The sum of numbers on a straight line equals a fixed number like 18.
