- Always write numbers in columns: ones under ones, tens under tens, and so on.
- Start adding from the 'ones' place and move to the left.
- If the sum in any column is 10 or more, carry over the extra digit to the next column.

- Order Property (Commutative): Changing the order of numbers does not change the sum.
- Addition of Zero: Adding zero to any number gives the same number.
