What to Focus On

  • Speed = Distance ÷ Time
  • Distance = Speed × Time
  • Time = Distance ÷ Speed
  • km/h to m/s: Multiply by 5/18
  • m/s to km/h: Multiply by 18/5
  • Always check units of distance and time before calculating
  • Uniform speed: Equal distances in equal time
  • Variable speed: Unequal distances in equal time
  • Speed changes if time or distance varies

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Speed is just distance divided by time — so any units can be used together.

To convert km/h to m/s, divide by 60 only because there are 60 seconds in a minute.

Average speed is just the average of two speeds, like (speed1 + speed2) ÷ 2.

Memory Tips

The basic formula: Speed = Distance ÷ Time

Distance = Speed × Time

Time = Distance ÷ Speed

Units: km/h and m/s
