Topics in Constructions

1

1. Basic Constructions Using Ruler and Compass

  • We can copy any given angle using a compass and ruler.
  • An angle can be bisected (divided into two equal parts) using compass arcs.
  • We can construct standard angles like 60°, 90°, 45°, 30°, 120°, and others step by step.
2

2. Constructing Standard Angles

  • 60° angle: Draw an arc from point O, then another arc from the intersection point to form an equilateral triangle.
  • 90° angle: Can be made by constructing perpendiculars or combining 60° and 30°.
  • 45° angle: Bisect a 90° angle.
3

3. Perpendiculars and Bisectors

  • Perpendicular bisector: A line that cuts a segment into two equal parts at 90°.
  • To draw a perpendicular from a point on a line: Use equal arcs on both sides and intersect above.
  • To draw a perpendicular from a point outside a line: Draw intersecting arcs from two points on the line.
4

4. Construction of Triangles

  • A triangle can be constructed if we know: three sides (SSS), two sides and included angle (SAS), or two angles and included side (ASA).
  • The sum of any two sides must be greater than the third side (triangle inequality).
  • The sum of all angles in a triangle is always 180°.
