  • The smallest natural number is 1.
  • There is no largest natural number — they go on infinitely.

Whole Numbers

  • Whole numbers are natural numbers along with zero: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ...
  • The smallest whole number is 0.
  • There is no largest whole number — they are infinite.

Successor and Predecessor

  • Successor of a number is the number that comes just after it. It is obtained by adding 1.
  • Predecessor of a number is the number that comes just before it. It is obtained by subtracting 1.
  • The predecessor of 1 is 0, which is not a natural number.

Properties of Whole Numbers

  • Whole numbers follow certain rules under addition and multiplication.
  • Closure Property: Sum or product of two whole numbers is always a whole number.
  • Commutative Property: a + b = b + a and a × b = b × a
