Asexual Reproduction in Animals
- Asexual reproduction does not involve eggs or sperms.
- Amoeba reproduces simply by dividing into two.
- In amoeba binary fission, the nucleus divides first, followed by division of the cytoplasm, and then the two offspring separate.
Sexual Reproduction in Humans
- Most animals reproduce sexually.
- In sexual reproduction, males produce sperm cells and females produce egg cells or ova.
- Sperm and egg are called gametes.
Female Reproductive System
- The female reproductive system includes ovaries, oviducts or fallopian tubes, uterus, and vagina.
- The ovaries are two whitish oval bodies lying within the lower half of the abdomen, one on either side of the uterus.
- Only one egg is produced by an ovary alternatively every month.
Male Reproductive System
- The male reproductive system includes testes, scrotum, epididymis, sperm ducts, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, Cowper's glands, urethra, and penis.
- The testes produce sperms.
- A pair of testes lies outside the abdominal cavity in a sac called the scrotum.
