Prepositions of Time
- At is used for a point of time, festivals, mealtimes, and indefinite periods: at 5 o'clock, at noon, at midnight, at Christmas, at Diwali, at lunch, at dinner, at dawn, at night.
- On is used for days, dates, and day plus part of the day: on Friday, on Sunday, on the 17th of March, on Friday morning, on Saturday night.
- In is used for seasons, years, months, and parts of the day: in spring, in 2019, in March, in the morning.
Prepositions of Place
- At suggests a certain point in a given neighbourhood: at the traffic lights, at the end of the queue.
- On indicates a surface: on the wall, on the shelf, on the door.
- In indicates interior or containment: in the bottle, in this book, in the shop.
Other Uses of Prepositions
- About can mean the subject of a conversation, book, or idea.
- About can also suggest nearness.
- At is used in many special expressions such as at home, at school, at work, at first, at last, at least, at a loss, at all costs, at all, and at once.
