1. Core Ideas and Definitions

  • A solid is a three-dimensional figure because it has length, breadth, and height.
  • Volume means the space occupied by a solid.
  • Surface area means the sum of the areas of all the surfaces of a solid; it is also called total surface area.

2. Cuboid

  • A cuboid is a rectangular solid with six rectangular faces.
  • A cuboid has length, breadth, and height as distinct dimensions.
  • A cuboid has four equal diagonals: AG, BH, CE, and DF.

3. Cube

  • A cube is a rectangular solid in which each face is a square.
  • A cube is a special case of cuboid where l = b = h = a.
  • All edges of a cube are equal.

4. Cost of an Article and Related Applications

  • Cost is found by multiplying rate and quantity.
  • Different articles are bought by different measures: petrol by volume, land by area, and cloth by length.
  • The general formula is Cost = Rate × Quantity.
