Formulas and Key Relations

2) Arc Measure and Arc Length

The degree measure of a minor arc of a circle is the measure of its corresponding central angle.

The degree measure of a semicircle is 180°.

Degree measure of a major arc = 360° - degree measure of the corresponding minor arc

Length of an arc = circumference × (degree measure of the arc)/(360°)

Example arc length calculation: length of arc PQR = 2πr × 40°/360° = (2/9)πr

3) Central Angle and Inscribed Angle

∠POQ = 2∠PBQ

2∠PBQ = ∠POQ = 180° ⇒ ∠PBQ = 90°

Key relations

In symbols, 2∠PBQ = ∠POQ = 180° ⇒ ∠PBQ = 90°.
