Formulas and Key Relations

Six Trigonometric Ratios

sin θ = BC/AC

cos θ = AB/AC

tan θ = BC/AB

cosec θ = AC/BC

sec θ = AC/AB

Finding Ratios from Two Sides

Pythagoras Theorem: third side is found from the other two sides

Key relations

The six ratios are sin theta = BC/AC, cos theta = AB/AC, tan theta = BC/AB, cosec theta = AC/BC, sec theta = AC/AB, and cot theta = AB/BC.

In a right triangle with sides 3, 4, and 5, for angle theta, sin theta = 3/5 and cos theta = 4/5.
