Formulas and Key Relations
Vapour Pressure of Liquid Solutions and Raoult's Law
p1 = p°1 × x1 and p2 = p°2 × x2.
Total pressure by Dalton's law
p_total = p1 + p2 = p°1×x1 + p°2×x2.
Key relations
Henry's law states that the partial pressure of a gas above a solution is directly proportional to its mole fraction in the solution: p = KH × x.
Raoult's law states that the partial vapour pressure of each volatile component is directly proportional to its mole fraction: p₁ = p₁⁰ × x₁.
Ideal solutions obey Raoult's law completely and have ΔmixH = 0 and ΔmixV = 0.
