2. Bohr’s Model and Sommerfeld’s Modification

  • Niels Bohr proposed an atomic model for the hydrogen atom.
  • Bohr was a Danish physicist and received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922.
  • Bohr’s model says electrons revolve in stationary orbits of fixed energy.

  • The shorthand notation is nl^x.
  • In this notation, n is the shell number, l is the sub-shell letter, and x is the number of electrons.
