What is the Self? Key Concepts

  • The 'self' refers to the totality of a person's experiences, ideas, thoughts, and feelings with regard to herself/himself — it is the characteristic way in which we define ourselves.

  • The self is NOT something we are born with — it is created and developed as we grow through experiences and interactions.
