AWhich birds do you see around your house or near your school?Show solution
(This is an open-ended speaking activity. Sample answer for students:)

I see many birds around my house and school. I see crows, sparrows, pigeons, and mynas very often. Sometimes I also see parrots sitting on the trees near my school.
BWhat do you like about the crow?Show solution
(This is an open-ended speaking activity. Sample answer for students:)

I like that the crow is very clever and smart. It is always alert and finds food on its own. Even though it is black, it is a very brave and helpful bird. It also warns us when danger is near.

Let us write — Identify the birds

ACan you identify the birds in the box? Write their names in the space provided.Show solution
(Note: The images of birds cannot be seen in the OCR. However, based on the standard NCERT Mridang Class 2 textbook, the birds shown in this exercise are commonly known birds. Students should write the name below each bird picture.)

The birds typically shown in this exercise include:

1. Crow (काला पक्षी)
2. Peacock (मोर)
3. Parrot (तोता)
4. Sparrow (गौरैया)
5. Pigeon (कबूतर)
6. Owl (उल्लू)
7. Duck (बतख)
8. Eagle (चील)
9. Hen (मुर्गी)
10. Flamingo (राजहंस)
11. Kingfisher (किलकिला)
12. Woodpecker (कठफोड़वा)

Students should look at each picture carefully and write the correct name of the bird in the space provided below it.

(This is a creative drawing activity.)

Step 1: Think of your favourite bird. It could be a peacock, parrot, sparrow, crow, or any bird you like.

Step 2: Draw the bird carefully in the box. Try to draw its beak, wings, feathers, eyes, and legs.

Step 3: You may also draw trees, grass, or a sky in the background to make your picture more beautiful.

Step 4: Write the name of your bird in the blank.

Sample answer:
My favourite bird is Peacock.

(Students may choose any bird they like and write its name.)

Let us listen — Syllables

AClose your eyes and listen to your teacher say the following words. Listen and repeat the word as she says. You may clap for each syllable of the word.Show solution
(This is a listening and speaking activity to be done with the teacher in class.)

What is a syllable?
A syllable is a small part of a word that has one vowel sound. We can clap once for each syllable.

How to do this activity:
1. Listen carefully as your teacher says each word.
2. Repeat the word after your teacher.
3. Clap your hands for each syllable (part) of the word.

Example:
- crow → 1 clap (1 syllable) → *crow*
- pea-cock → 2 claps (2 syllables) → *pea | cock*
- beau-ti-ful → 3 claps (3 syllables) → *beau | ti | ful*
- feath-er → 2 claps (2 syllables) → *feath | er*
- col-our-ful → 3 claps (3 syllables) → *col | our | ful*

(Students should practise this activity regularly with their teacher using new words each time.)

Let us write — Rhyming Bird Names

BRead the words in Column A. Complete the word in Column B that rhymes with it. Hint: The words in Column B should be the names of birds. One has been done for you.Show solution
(Note: The image of the rhyming table cannot be fully seen. Based on the standard NCERT Mridang Class 2 textbook, the typical rhyming pairs used in this exercise are given below.)

Concept: Rhyming words are words that have the same ending sound.

| Column A | Column B (Bird name) |
|---|---|
| hen | w-henwren |
| crow | sparr-owsparrow |
| pool | b-ullbull (or cool → koel) |
| park | st-arkstork |
| rain | cr-anecrane |
| dove | l-ove → (already a bird — dove) |

Sample completed answer (commonly expected in this exercise):

1. crow rhymes with sparr-owsparrow
2. hen rhymes with wr-enwren
3. rain rhymes with cr-anecrane
4. pool rhymes with ko-elkoel
5. park rhymes with st-orkstork

(Students should look at the hint letters given in Column B and fill in the missing letters to complete the bird name that rhymes with the word in Column A.)

Let us write — Make Sentences

AMake the sentences using one word from each box. Write the sentences in the blanks given below.

| Today | I | will go | to a | village |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | we | | | school |
| | Rajni | | | park |
| | She | | | farm |

Show solution

Structure: Today + [Subject] + will go + to a + [Place]

Sample Sentences:

1. Today I will go to a school.

2. Today we will go to a park.

3. Today Rajni will go to a village.
