Let us speak

1Have you seen people throwing packets or bottles in the park or on the road? Talk about it.Show solution
Yes, I have seen people throwing packets and bottles in the park and on the road. This is called littering. It makes the park and road look dirty and unhealthy. We should always throw waste in a dustbin. We must tell others also not to litter and keep our surroundings clean.
2After having biscuits, what do you do with the wrapper?Show solution
After having biscuits, I fold the wrapper neatly and throw it in the dustbin. We should never throw wrappers on the road or in the park because it makes the place dirty. Putting waste in the dustbin keeps our surroundings clean and beautiful.
3Imagine you are sitting under a tree. What do you see on the tree?Show solution
If I am sitting under a tree, I can see green leaves, branches, and a bird's nest on the tree. I can also see birds sitting and chirping on the branches. Sometimes I may see a squirrel or a monkey jumping from branch to branch. The tree looks very beautiful and lively.
4Is there a dustbin in your school? Do you know where it is?Show solution
Yes, there is a dustbin in my school. There is one dustbin in every classroom near the teacher's table. There are also dustbins in the corridors and near the school gate. We always throw our waste in the dustbin to keep our school clean.

Let us draw

ADraw any three things that you use to clean your house.Show solution
Students should draw any three of the following things used to clean the house:
1. A broom (झाड़ू) — used to sweep the floor.
2. A mop (पोंछा) — used to clean and wipe the floor.
3. A dustpan — used to collect the swept dust.
4. A bucket and cloth — used to wipe surfaces.

(Note: This is a drawing activity. Students should draw the items neatly and label them if possible.)

Let us listen

AClose your eyes and listen to your teacher say the following words: market, monkey, packet, dustbin, classroom, Anju, banana, Farida. Say your name, clapping for each syllable of the name. How many times did you clap?Show solution
The words are broken into syllables as follows:

| Word | Syllables | Number of Syllables |
|-----------|---------------|---------------------|
| market | mar - ket | 2 |
| monkey | mon - key | 2 |
| packet | pack - et | 2 |
| dustbin | dust - bin | 2 |
| classroom | class - room | 2 |
| Anju | An - ju | 2 |
| banana | ba - na - na | 3 |
| Farida | Fa - ri - da | 3 |

For the clapping activity: Students say their own name and clap for each syllable.
Example:
- 'Ram' → 1 clap (1 syllable)
- 'Priya' → Pri-ya → 2 claps (2 syllables)

Students should count how many times they clapped for their own name.
