Common Mistakes to Avoid

If a force is applied on a body and the body doesn't move, work is still done because effort is spent.

When a coolie walks on a horizontal platform with a load on his head, he does work against the load (its weight).

Power depends only on the amount of work done — more work always means more power.

Memory Tips

Definition of Work — force AND displacement both needed

W = F × s × cos θ — formula for work done

Work is zero when θ = 90° (force perpendicular to displacement)

Negative work — force opposes displacement (θ = 180°)
