1. Addition of Large Numbers

  • Always write numbers in columns: ones under ones, tens under tens, and so on.
  • Start adding from the 'ones' place and move to the left.
  • If the sum in any column is 10 or more, carry over the extra digit to the next column.

2. Properties of Addition

  • Order Property (Commutative): Changing the order of numbers does not change the sum.
  • Addition of Zero: Adding zero to any number gives the same number.
  • Grouping Property (Associative): The way numbers are grouped does not change the sum.

3. Word Problems on Addition

  • Read the problem carefully and identify what is being asked.
  • Find all the numbers involved and decide they need to be added.
  • Write the numbers in columns and add them step by step.
