What to Focus On

  • Metre (m) is the standard unit of length.
  • 1 m = 100 cm, 1 cm = 10 mm, 1 km = 1000 m
  • Use cm for small objects, m for rooms, km for long distances.
  • Multiply by 100 to convert m to cm.
  • Divide by 100 to convert cm to m.
  • Multiply by 1000 to convert km to m.
  • Add centimetres first, then metres.
  • Carry over 1 m if centimetres sum to 100 or more.
  • Write cm as two digits (e.g., 05 cm, 08 cm).

Common Mistakes to Avoid

1 metre equals 10 centimetres.

When adding lengths, you can add metres and centimetres separately without converting.

Kilometre is smaller than metre because 'kilo' sounds like 'centi'.
