What to Focus On

  • Division means equal sharing or grouping.
  • It is the inverse of multiplication.
  • Every division has four parts: dividend, divisor, quotient, and remainder.

  • To divide by 10, remove 1 digit from the right.
  • To divide by 100, remove 2 digits from the right.
  • To divide by 1000, remove 3 digits from the right.

  • Use long division for larger numbers.
  • Always start from the leftmost digit.
  • Use trial and error to guess the correct quotient digit.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

When dividing by 10, 100, or 1000, just remove the same number of zeros from the dividend.

If the first digit of the dividend is smaller than the divisor, you skip it and move to the next digit.

You can divide zero by any number and the answer is always zero.
