What to Focus On

  • Coins are metal money; notes are paper money.
  • Common coins: ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10.
  • Common notes: ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, ₹500, ₹2000.

  • 100 paise = 1 rupee
  • We use a dot to separate rupees and paise
  • Example: ₹18.50 means 18 rupees and 50 paise

  • Multiply rupees by 100 to get paise
  • Remove the dot and treat the whole number as paise

Common Mistakes to Avoid

1 rupee = 10 paise because both are small units of money.

When adding money, you can ignore the paise and add only rupees.

The dot in ₹5.50 means multiplication, like 5 × 50.

Memory Tips

₹ symbol stands for Rupee

1 Rupee = 100 Paise

Writing money with a dot: ₹ 12.50

Converting Rupees to Paise: Multiply by 100
