1. Multiplying by 2-Digit Numbers

  • Always multiply from right to left (ones place first).
  • Multiply the ones digit of the multiplier first, then the tens digit.
  • When multiplying by the tens digit, write a 0 in the ones place before multiplying.

2. Properties of Multiplication

  • Multiplying any number by 1 gives the same number.
  • Multiplying any number by 0 gives 0.
  • Changing the order of numbers does not change the product (Commutative Property).

3. Multiplying by 10, 100, and 1000

  • To multiply by 10, add one zero at the end of the number.
  • To multiply by 100, add two zeros at the end.
  • To multiply by 1000, add three zeros at the end.

4. Multiplying Larger Numbers (3-Digit Multipliers)

  • Multiply the multiplicand by each digit of the multiplier starting from the right.
  • For tens digit: write one 0 before multiplying.
  • For hundreds digit: write two 0s before multiplying.
