1. What is the Circulatory System?

  • The circulatory system transports blood throughout the body.
  • It carries oxygen and nutrients to cells and removes waste like carbon dioxide.
  • Main parts: Heart, blood, and blood vessels (arteries, veins, capillaries).

2. The Heart – The Pumping Machine

  • The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood continuously.
  • It is about the size of your fist and located in the chest, slightly to the left.
  • Made of cardiac muscles that never get tired.

3. Blood Vessels – The Blood Highways

  • Three types of blood vessels: Arteries, Veins, and Capillaries.
  • Arteries carry blood away from the heart; most carry oxygen-rich blood.
  • Veins carry blood back to the heart; most carry oxygen-poor blood.

4. Blood – The Liquid of Life

  • Blood is a red fluid made up of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
  • Red blood cells carry oxygen using haemoglobin (red pigment).
  • White blood cells fight germs and protect the body from diseases.
