What is Light?

  • Light is a form of energy that helps us see objects.
  • The Sun is the main natural source of light.
  • Bulbs, candles, and torches are artificial sources of light.

Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque Objects

  • Objects are classified based on how much light passes through them.
  • Transparent objects allow all light to pass through (e.g., glass, clear water).
  • Translucent objects allow some light to pass through (e.g., frosted glass, tracing paper).

Formation of Shadows

  • Shadows are formed when an opaque or translucent object blocks light.
  • Shadows are always black, regardless of the object's color.
  • Shadow is formed on the opposite side of the light source.

Eclipses – Solar and Lunar

  • Eclipses happen when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align in a straight line.
  • Lunar Eclipse: Earth comes between Sun and Moon. Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon. Occurs on Full Moon night.
  • Solar Eclipse: Moon comes between Sun and Earth. Moon’s shadow falls on Earth. Occurs on New Moon day.
