  • A verb denotes an action, being, or possession.
  • Action verbs show what someone or something does.

2. Transitive, Intransitive, and Incomplete Verbs

  • A transitive verb needs an object to complete its meaning.
  • A transitive verb can have a direct object and an indirect object.
  • A direct object directly receives the action of the verb.

  • All verbs other than the fourteen auxiliary verbs are main verbs.
