1. Basic Concepts

FRACTION = Numerator/Denominator

Fraction a/b = Whole number a / Natural number b (b≠0)

Rational number a/b = Integer a / Integer b (b≠0)

2. Types of Fractions

Mixed fraction = (Integral part × Denominator + Numerator) / Denominator

Cross-multiplication comparison rule: a/b > c/d if a×d > b×c; a/b < c/d if a×d < b×c; a/b = c/d if a×d = b×c

3. Reducing Fractions and Equivalent Fractions

Fraction value is unchanged when numerator and denominator are multiplied or divided by the same non-zero number

To reduce a fraction to lowest terms, divide both numerator and denominator by their HCF

4. Like and Unlike Fractions

Like fractions: same denominator

Unlike fractions: different denominators

LCM of denominators is used to make like fractions
