2019

The post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was created in 2019 to provide better coordination and advice to political leadership on military matters. General Bipin Rawat was appointed as India's first CDS. This position was created to integrate the three services better and provide unified military advice. The Chief of Integrated Defence Staff was created in 2001 for coordination, but CDS is a higher position created later.

Indian Navy Ship

INS stands for 'Indian Naval Ship' and is the prefix used for all Indian Navy vessels. For example, INS Shivalik, INS Godavari, INS Trishul are all warships of the Indian Navy. This naming convention helps identify ships belonging to the Indian Navy. Other navies have similar prefixes - HMS for British ships, USS for American ships. The prefix immediately identifies the nationality and service branch of the vessel.

October 8

Indian Air Force Day is celebrated on October 8th every year. This day commemorates the establishment of the Indian Air Force and honors the service of air force personnel. December 4 is Indian Navy Day, January 15 is Army Day, and February 1 is Coast Guard Day. Each service has its dedicated day to showcase capabilities and honor personnel who serve in that branch of the armed forces.

2022

The Agnipath scheme was started in 2022 to enable youth to serve in the armed forces. Under this scheme, youth aged 17.5 to 21 years can join as 'Agniveers' and serve for 4 years. This scheme aims to bring younger personnel into the forces and provide military training to more citizens. It represents a new approach to military recruitment, focusing on shorter-term service with specific benefits and opportunities for the participants.
