What is refraction of light?
Answer
Refraction of light is the change in direction of light while going from one transparent medium to another transparent medium.
Why does a pencil partly dipped in water look bent or broken?
Answer
Light changes direction when it comes out of water into air. Because of this refraction, the part inside water appears shifted, so the pencil looks bent or broken near the surface.
Why does a coin placed in a vessel become visible when water is poured in?
Answer
As water is added, light from the coin bends while moving from water to air. The refraction allows the light to reach the eye, so the coin appears visible.
A ray travels from a rarer medium to a denser medium. How does it bend?
Answer
It bends towards the normal.

Answer
