  • Carnatic music is the classical music tradition of South India.
  • The three main composers of Carnatic compositions lived between AD 1700 and 1850: Shyam Shastri, Thyagaraja and Mutthuswami Dikshitar.
  • Purandardasa was another great composer of Carnatic music, distinct from the three main composers.

  • The Rig Veda mentions dance and danseuse.
  • Dance in India can be traced back to the Harappan culture through the bronze statue of a dancing girl.
  • Dance is used to express joy and religious ideas.
