1. Least Distance of Distinct Vision and Angle of Vision

  • Least distance of distinct vision is the minimum distance at which an object can be seen clearly without strain.
  • For a healthy adult, this distance is about 25 cm.
  • At a young age, below 10 years, this distance can be as close as 7 to 8 cm.

2. Structure and Working of the Human Eye

  • The eye ball is nearly spherical.
  • The front portion is sharply curved and covered by a transparent protective membrane called cornea.
  • Aqueous humour fills the space behind the cornea.

3. Accommodation and Focal Length of Eye Lens

  • Accommodation is the process of adjusting focal length by the eye lens.
  • When the eye focuses on a distant object, ciliary muscles relax.
  • In that case, focal length is maximum and equal to the distance from lens to retina.

4. Defects of Vision and Their Correction

  • The eye may lose accommodation ability, causing blurred vision.
  • The three common defects are myopia, hypermetropia, and presbyopia.
  • Myopia is near sightedness.
