  • The Sātavāhanas ruled large parts of the Deccan from the 2nd century BCE onward.
  • They are also called the Andhras.
  • Their empire included present-day Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.

  • After the decline of the Maurya Empire, Kalinga rose as a prominent power under the Chedi dynasty.
  • Khāravela was one of the main rulers of Kalinga.
  • Khāravela was called bhikṣu-rāja, meaning monk-king.
