1. Weather and Its Elements

  • Weather means the condition of the Earth's atmosphere at a particular time and place.
  • The troposphere is the layer of atmosphere closest to Earth's surface, and weather happens there.
  • The troposphere extends to a height of 6 to 18 kilometres from the ground.

2. Measuring Temperature, Rainfall, Pressure, Wind, and Humidity

  • Temperature is measured using a thermometer.
  • 15°C is the same temperature as 59°F.
  • Range of temperature means maximum temperature minus minimum temperature over a period, usually 24 hours.

3. Weather Signs, Forecasting, and Uses

  • People have long observed Nature to forecast weather.
  • Birds flying low, ants carrying eggs, squirrels gathering nuts, frogs croaking loudly, and pine cones opening or closing can give clues about weather.
  • Pine cones close in humid conditions to protect seeds and open in dry conditions to release seeds.
