1. Basic Ideas of Endocrine System
- A gland is a group of secretory tissues.
- Exocrine glands release secretions through ducts into a target organ.
- Endocrine glands are ductless and release hormones directly into the blood.

2. Pituitary Gland and Hypothalamus
- Pituitary gland is also called hypophysis.
- It is a whitish, pea-sized gland weighing about 0.5 g.
- It hangs from the base of the hypothalamus by the infundibulum.

- Thyroid gland is bilobed and H-shaped.
- It weighs about 25 to 40 g in man.
- It lies in the neck below the larynx on either side of the trachea and the two lobes are connected by the isthmus.

- It lies in the loop of the duodenum just below the stomach.
- Its exocrine part has acini that secrete pancreatic juice.
