  • Capitalistic economy is also called free market economy and laissez-faire economy.
  • Means of production such as land and capital are privately owned.
  • Economic activities are guided by self-interest and profit motive.

Socialist Economy

  • Socialism is an economic system in which means of production are owned and managed by the whole community or state.
  • The state controls and manages production according to a general economic plan.
  • The Soviet Union became the first socialistic state in the world in 1917.

Mixed Economy

  • Mixed economy combines the best features of capitalism and socialism.
  • It has both public sector and private sector.
  • The concept of mixed economy was propounded by J.M. Keynes during the world depression of the thirties.
