What to Focus On

  • Multiplication means repeated addition.
  • Multiplicand × Multiplier = Product
  • Order does not matter in multiplication: 4 × 3 = 3 × 4

  • Always start from the ones place.
  • Carry over extra tens to the next higher place.
  • Write final answer after adding all carries.

  • Multiply by ones first, then by tens.
  • When multiplying by tens, add a zero at the end.
  • Add both partial products to get the final answer.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Multiplication always makes numbers bigger.

The order of numbers in multiplication does not matter, so I can change them in word problems.

In column multiplication, I only multiply the ones digit and ignore carry-over.

Memory Tips

Multiplication means repeated addition

Multiplicand, Multiplier, Product

Multiplying 4-digit by 1-digit number

Carry over in multiplication
