1. Digits and Numbers

  • There are 10 digits: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
  • All numbers are formed using these digits, with or without repetition.
  • A number cannot start with 0. For example, 023 is not a valid 3-digit number.

2. Place Value and Face Value

  • Place value depends on the position of a digit in a number.
  • Face value is the digit itself, regardless of position.
  • Place value of 0 is always 0, no matter where it is placed.

3. Comparing Numbers

  • If numbers have different digits, the one with more digits is greater.
  • If digits are equal, compare from left to right.
  • Use place value charts to compare large numbers step by step.

4. Forming Greatest and Smallest Numbers

  • To form the greatest number: arrange digits in descending order.
  • To form the smallest number: arrange digits in ascending order, but never start with 0.
  • If 0 is included, place the smallest non-zero digit first, then 0, then others in ascending order.
